Costumes for kids in Foster Care
June - October 2020:
As a member of the Ag/Science Program at Tracy High, I was required to complete a senior project. For my topic, I chose foster care, and decided to collect gently used Halloween costumes to the kids at my local foster care agency. I spent most of my summer posting my flyer on social media and collecting old costumes from people who contacted me. Once I reached my goal of 80 costumes, I began to organize them into age categories and prepare them to be donated. I then donated the costume to EA Family Services, but I was not able to help with passing out costumes due to Covid. However, the agency did inform that every kid was able to pick out a costume, and the kids really enjoy the donations. Overall, it felt very heartwarming to know that I could have possibly made an impact in someone's life. It's motivated me to find more ways to help out my community, and I can't wait to make a difference in this world! |
Leader Lily to save the day!
July 2018:
The summer after my freshman year, I volunteered as a leader at my church's VBS (Vacation Bible School) for a week. Throughout this week, I was able to make connections with so many bright, intelligent kids, as we spent our days playing, singing, learning, and eating lots of popsicles. Being a leader at VBS inspired me to become more involved in my church, so I began to volunteer as a daycare teacher for Sunday school, where I took care of 3-4 year olds. I also decided to become a middle school leader for Tuesday Night youth group. On Tuesday nights, I was able to mentor the students, lead small discussions, and make more wonderful bonds with the students. While participating in these activities, I've also been involved in my worship team, where I dedicated a great deal of time practicing every week and singing for three different services. Overall, becoming more involved in my church community has inspired and motivated me in various ways, and I love every opportunity to spread kindness and positivity. |
